I wrote a tutorial on how to use ffmpeg a library that can read movie files and encode and decode them pretty much transparently. This allows you to work with video files a lot more easily because you don't have to worry about all the different kinds of crazy formats. This tutorial goes over how images are encoded for video (not RGB but YUV!), threading, and how to sync digital audio and video. I submitted this to reddit where it fared pretty well, and someone else submitted it to digg, too. Overall, the reaction has been very good, which is awesome.

"An ffmpeg tutorial" is one of the most gorgeous tutorials I have ever read. I am wondering do you have any idea how to compile the source code using visual c++ instead of gcc. I really want a media player of my own running on MS windows machine.

Thaaanks!!... this tutorial is unique... is bad that google can't find it... :(.... Can you write a mini tutorial about how to convert a video file to other format like avi, mpeg4 or audio mp3 ?? pls :(

  That would be the next tutorial I write, but I'm pretty busy with other projects at the moment. I suggest in the meantime to take a look at the encoding program included with the library. It should give you some good hints!
